That’s dedication! Donating plasma that often must take a toll on your body, but it’s great to know it’s helping others.

Doesn’t take very long for that to happen. Especially if you only use one arm. Mines slightly bigger around but not as deep as his.

    3. Jesus, if it was for financial reasons hopefully you’re both doing better these days.

👋 just here to say thanks as someone who requires human plasma derived medication due to a rare bleeding disorder.

    5. I have the same hole from donating plasma twice a week for about a year and a half in the early 80’s. Just had my first apartment, one little job and so I donated plasma for a little extra grocery money. $25 a week in 1983 bought a lot of bread, soup and Mac and Cheese. I donated until my iron was too low and they wouldn’t accept me anymore. 40 years late, still have the scar.

    6. I Did plasma donations for 18 ish months. and I have a permenant “Trackmark” on my arm I’m always worried people think im a drug addict.

I had one like that. But mine was for heroin.

      *Clean many years now*

Edit: appreciate you all. Life is good 🥂

    8. Long ago I worked at a dialysis clinic, we developed tunnel accesses for patients with appropriate A/V fistuals. We would just pick the scab and insert the 15ga 3/4″ needle in, incredible outcomes.

Anyway, sort of related. Made me think back to 20+ years ago.

Me too. I didn’t do it out of the kindness of my heart though. I did it for beans and rice money and maybe some bread and cheese.

    10. Paid plasma place or donation? I’ve done many platelet donations at Red Cross over the years and have no hole in my arm.

    11. Yes! I have a small dip above the vein which they usually use for me from my times. In the past there were times when my iron was low and I couldn’t donate but I finally got to my goal after several years and received 5-gallon donor gift. 😀

thats a skin fistula and they shouldnt be drawing from it. These can get infected and lead to sepsis quickly.

I sold my plasma twice a week for months, i made myself anemic and wound up with phlebitis. I still have holes and its been almost five years. Not fun, would not recomend. 0 out of 5 stars. Ive also donated a crap ton of blood to the red cross (universal donor).

That’s wild. I donate a ton of blood and I have scarring but not an actual hole.

I have the exact same scar lol, I donated a lot of plasma when I was in the Army back in the mid 2000s. I can’t anymore, I found out a couple of years ago I have a rare blood clotting disorder and can’t donate plasma or blood.

I also have a permanent scar on both my arms from plasma donation but it doesn’t look quite as much of hole as your husband’s does. If anybody sees this and you are hurting for cash plasma donation is a Hussle foreal and has saved me many times when I was really broke or had to make rent, you can get $100 your first few times donating and it only takes like an hour of your time. I absolutely hate donating actual blood because I always get really dizzy and feel like crap but just donating plasma is no issue and I feel fine

    17. Donated blood 10 times now. I have polka dots on my elbow crease 😂 it’s worth it tho

I tried to donate plasma once. They took me back to the area with all the like lounge chair things, poked me and turned the machine on. Everything was going fine I was literally almost done when I began to feel hot and thirsty then nauseous then my peripheral vision began to go black. At this point I had become somewhat belligerent. I was saying “IM OK IM OK I JUST NEED SOME WATER CAN I JUST GET SOME WATER”. Next thing I knew like five phlebotomists are around me covering me with ice packs and unhooking me from the machine..yeah not my finest moment

    19. Same, I did it for twice a week for like 5 years. I haven’t had a chance to donate in like 14 years, but the mark is still on my arm.

I donated a fuck ton of plasma as a kid and have divots in both or my arms now because of it. I always wondered if my plasma ever saved a life or was used to help anyone. Anyone here who receives plasma want to explain to me what it was likely used for?

    21. I donated 8 gallons of platelets before a medical condition forced me to stop donating. Thanks to him for what he does.

    22. He is a trooper, i worked as a phlebotomist with a plasma center. Its very hard to stick these types as you must finesse the needle which is a 16 gauge lumen. (aka huge fricking needle) On top of the big needle you have to precisely pierce the scar tissue so you get right in the vein for the draw. It is a tricky process. Fruit for thought if you have O negative blood you could save a lot of lives and should look into the effects of [RH Factor](https://www.redcrossblood.org/local-homepage/news/article/what-is-the-rh-factor–why-is-it-important-.html#:~:text=Why%20Is%20Rh%20Factor%20Important,to%20categorize%20a%20blood%20donation)

I call them my poverty tracks. Years of donating twice a week to get by, I have them on both arms

    24. Its not that bad but I have one to. Me and my gf back in our early 20s used to do it cause we needed weed money and you could get drunk off only a couple beers afterwards.

    25. AllTheButterscotch on

Totally have the same thing. I see people notice it at work and am like nonono I was more into coke.

    26. Legendary-Beowulf on

I still have scars on both my arms from when I used to donate twice a week. The toll that it takes on you is never explained to you. Glad I did it but now everyone thinks I used to shoot up.

    27. Thewhiskygypsy on

I started donating because my best friend’s dad needed the plasma and it subsequently opened my eyes. Also, money. I too have a permanent scar from it. People see it and ask a lot of questions…gives me a reason to tell his story now.
